Corny
Is it just me, or does anyone else battle the urge to run through fields of corn? Many crops are well over eight feet tall now, and it takes a lot of willpower not to park my car by the side of the road to enjoy an irresponsible stroll through a farmer's achievement. I only succumb to the temptation a couple times a year. I never take any ears; being amidst the cornucopia just fills me with giddy optimism.

Snakes.
Snakes love cornfields because mice do too.

You can often find diced snake in fresh bales of hay.

Screw the snakes, corn husks (sp?) and stalks hurt like a SOB. I wouldn't run through a cornfield just because my arms and legs would look like hamburger afterward. Anyone who has ever had to pull tassels will attest that corn stalks are much more painful than they look.

Back in high school daze, we used to pull over, grab our stuff and run deep into the corn and hide when we were out on the back roads at night and saw the cherries comin' up over the hill. Better an abandoned vehicle ticket than the alternative.
