One of my best friends swears by Ponak's. I love him anyway. Still, I meet with him at the Southwest Boulevard restaurant far too often for my taste. I recently made the mistake of partaking of Ponak's signature "liquid attitude." The next day was rather unpleasant.

I have not been there in years and have no plans to change my ways. Ortega's Mini-Market is easy to find and 10 times better and the bonus is the owner, the charming Mary Ortega.
Sorry you have to keep company with people you think Ponak's is some sort of hipster joint (as if it ever was).

My favorite thing there is their rice. It has corn in it. Otherwise I'd rather be at Margarita's or Mi Ranchito!
