Noodling

People mistakenly think I'm joking when I suggest meeting at McDonald's, Arby's or Subway for lunch. I just can't stand the thought of paying ten or more dollars for a midday meal. The belated arrival of Noodles & Company in Kansas City helps solve that problem. A solid lunch costs just a couple dollars more than far less appealing offerings elsewhere.

There is a number of places with cheaper lunches. This place is not bad but generic.I've never seen it crowded so this must help with meetings.

I challenge you to list five "good" lunch spots in KC where two people can eat for $15 or less, tip included.

Really? I've never had a decent meal there. Better to go to D'Bronx or someplace like that.

I started a whole twitter discussion for you. There are places around city market,Vietnam Cafe, Kim Long, LaSalla's, Pandolfis,El Huarache on SW Boulevard (try it before it goes out of business), I've heard Chai Shai is good and cheap, Zaina's downtown, etc, etc, etc.

hmm... I thought 2 Amigos' tacos placeros compared quite well with the same offering, well reviewed, at Frida's Contemporary Mexican Cuisine at half the price.

I just cannot stand the idea of paying inflated prices for a freaking bowl of noodles. Even a limited level of popularity of Noodle & Co still has the ability to just blow my mind. I don't get it!

And the one time I tried it, it was really disappointing. Flavors were sucky. The noodles were mushy. Not worth it. So I've never been back, obviously. That one trip probably tainted my overall opinion of them, admittedly.

Neo Delicatessen is a wonderful little place few know about. I just ate the bibimbob (bibimbap) with bulgogi and it was most excellent. The stuffed baked potatoes and the bacon cheeseburgers looked wonderful on neighboring plates. If you're downtown it's the place to be. Expect long lines during the noon hour though.

Thanks, Meesha, for expanding the conversation, and to everyone for the tips.

Maybe I'm missing something, AJ and Faith. $5.25 at Noodle & Co. buys a big bowl of food. It may not be life-changing, but it's good.

Did you see the article advertising $5 lunches at Accurso's?

I saw that only after the fact, DLC. More of that, please!

Ok, you DO know that you can buy an entire box of noodles, a box of tofu, and some pad thai seasonings for about $6, right? And you could serve 6 people with what you make out of that.

Or maybe you're into their mediteranean offerings...even cheaper.

A bowl of noodles made at home from a box, with your own added protein and sauces = feeding a whole family for under $8. That's my point when I talk about their prices being inflated.

It's no different from grabbing a sandwich at Goodcent's, or getting a burger from Smashburger, really. But it's the quality of the product their putting out that I have a beef with. If I can make something so infinitely better for so much less money in my on kitchen, dammit, I'm gonna do it.

    That's all. ;)

Here's the thing, Faith. I'm not particularly sociable. (Shocker!) So when a fourth-cousin, a fellow blogger, a job seeker, someone from church or a jazz musician asks to meet with me, I'm not going to invite them into my home for dinner. (No offense, people.) But I don't want to invest twenty dollars to fulfill that obligation either. This Noodles place works for those scenarios.
