Holiday Hotel

When the south facing of the downtown Marriott began its gaudy seasonal light show a few years ago I was initially taken aback by its tastelessness. How silly of me.

I should have immediately realized that Kansas City’s downtown can always use more light and festive cheer.

As long as I’m not trying to sleep inside one of the hotel’s rooms as flashing colored lights pierce my eyelids, I’m all for it.

For me, those Marriott lights are like the Bartle pylons. I have the sneaking suspicion that I’m not supposed to dig them, but I do.
It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you on Saturday at the Tex-Mex-Mas. I hope to bump into you in the future.

The picture is currently broken, but I'll assume you are talking about the full-building, ever-changing, moving display of lights on a building in the vicinity of downtown. Yeah, some of the displays are dumber than others, but I think in general, it is pretty cool that we have it.

And to everyone I know who finds them distracting while driving, you can see the thing from pretty far away, much like the SCOUT displays. If you are distracted by them you are either looking too long or at the wrong time.

I look forward to seeing you again as well, Shan. And thanks for not slugging me when I laughed hysterically at the "Nikon or Canon" question. This is the one-man-band I was telling you about.

    That's what it is, Panos!
