New Frontier

I recently found myself way out west with time to kill. I pulled into a typical strip mall and decided to have lunch at an upscale Italian restaurant. I couldn't get seated even though the place had a dozen unoccupied tables. It's adjacent to a Chinese takeout joint, but the line of disgruntled customers there wound well past the door. I settled on Fronteras. The food at the standard-issue Mexican restaurant was more than acceptable but the service was sparkling. Why is that so rare?

because alot of servers these days are not properly trained? because they grew up "me first" and don't really care about you? because some establishments seem to have the attitude that they're doing YOU a favor just by being there?

it's the same difference as when you say "thank you" and the person replies "no problem" instead of "you're welcome." WOULD it have been a problem otherwise??

just some of my thoughts... - mike t.

...and when did "uh-huh" become a proper response to "thank you?"

OMG, have you tried Paleteria Chihuahua in that strip mall? Their agua fresca is the nectar of the Gods! And the popsicles are great, if you avoid the weird flavors.

Your comment is the first I've heard of it, Rick. Thanks for the tip.

And as for the rest of you jokers... "no problem."

oops, that should have been "gods." And now, the first really cold day of the year, is not the best time for popsicles. But next spring/summer! They do serve some authentico Mexican food there, too, like corn on the cob rubbed with spices, etc. Lotsa families.

Fronteras serves the hottest food in the world. I sometimes have to wait 10 minutes before taking a bite.

I just want to publicly acknowledge your outstanding site, DLC.

A link to KC Lunch Spots is over on the right.

And $10 for a little soup and salad at that new joint is too steep for me, DLC.
