Beans

Some things are better in principle than in practice. Examples include electronic paper, conscious hip hop and the 2009 version of the Kansas City Royals. I lump Broadway Cafe into that category. I admire their endurance. The Westport coffee shop managed to outlast a neighboring Starbucks. I also love spotting the array of bohemian types constantly lounging outside. For all that, however, the place just doesn't work for me.

Every time I park on Broadway and walk past the cafe on my way to Blanc Burger, I refer to it as "running the hipster gauntlet."

Both "Hipster Gauntlet" and "Judgment Tunnel" would be outstanding names for blogs.

Yeah, but they used to make the best iced vanilla latte. Does that make me a hipster?

While an employee of the Streeside Records store a block south, I know we were united in our loyalty to Broadway Cafe for our daily caffeine fixes, though I confess thier coffee always gave me heartburn. I was utterly delighted when thay outlasted that Starbux that operated virtually next door.

Wait, you guys are dumping on Broadway cafe from the vantage point of Streetside Records and Blanc Burgers? That's rich.

I'll say this, BC is a lot easier to deal with than the Westport Coffeehouse freakshow.

Best coffee shop in KC, by far (though there are some other good ones). Best coffee in town and I love the atmosphere. Have no idea what's not working for you.
