Beached

In spite of what a few foes might say about me, I am not a slacker. Need proof? I've been inside Buzzard Beach only a handful of times. The Westport tavern, or so it's always seemed to me, is a haven for people who have managed not to take life too seriously. I'm not dismissing the establishment's regulars. I'm jealous. I stopped by for a beer the other night. This is the view from the deck.

From the mid 1970's through the early 1980's I would find myself inside this den of iniquity late at night many times.

For a couple of years I lived right around the corner on Broadway so stumbling home was easy and safe.

The place lacked charm but the booze and beer was cheap and the women got as drunk as the men and cursed like sailors months at sea.

Something tells me that not much has changed in the last couple of decades.

Buzzard Beach is my favorite place in Westport, just because it is relaxed and cheap and has that balcony. :-) Also? No need to dress up. That said, I hardly ever get out there anymore. Hmm...

I just figured, BGO and Christy, that serious drinkers "graduated" from Buzzard Beach and moved across Broadway to Dave's Stagecoach. I haven't been there for a while, either.

And Christy, what is this "need to dress up" concept? I'm not familiar with that.

Typically when I go to Westport, I am being dragged by friends who either want to have a night out bar-hopping or it's a bachelorette party and they want us all to be dressed up and made up and generally glittery. Eh.

The first bar I ever went to in KC was Dave's Stagecoach. I guess I graduated before I moved here :)

    I might buy www.generallyglittery.com, Christy.

I guess that makes you some kind of honors student, DLC.

If you do buy it, I hope you do something fun with it. :-)
