Big Blue Bastion
The enormous blue residential building at the intersection of Wornal Road and Meyer Boulevard has been there as long as I can remember. And each time I see it I marvel at its unlikely color and its incongruous location. I know it’s unpopular with residents of Brookside but for me it’s a familiar and useful landmark.

It's popular with some Brookside residents. ;> At least to the ones who live in it. And it is always easy to tell someone where you live with it, even if they're unfamiliar with the area. "Trust me; it's a 12-story blue building. You won't miss it."
This building was hotly contested when it was first planned in the late 1950s. I think it was built by the early 1960s.

You're turning into a one-man PostSecret.
I think your photo does this building some serious favours. Walk south up Wornall, Brookside, or the trail and look back at it and it's nigh on impossible to get an angle where it looks okay.

I like it. My boyfriend says it has always reminded him of something you could build with the Girders and Panels game.

Anon- I have no reason for saying this, but I have the impression it's mostly senior citizens living there. Is that true?
Irish- I took this photo from my car as I waited out a red light several weeks ago. I agree that the building is not as attractive as the image suggests.
Panos- Your bf sounds pretty hip.

growing up in brookside, it was a landmark. still is. yes, mostly old people live there. and there is a salon in the basement (or on the ground floor) where they go to get their hair "Done" once a week. i hear there is a man there who cuts hair while smoking a cigarette. and i hear that there is usually several inches of ash hanging off of it. lovely right? right.

It's also one of the worst intersections in KC and Wornall is WAAY to narrow!
