Blurry Vision

Even as someone who enjoys an occasional adult beverage, I must say that the very concept of drive-thru liquor stores is disconcerting. It likely enables tipplers who are unable to stagger but can still manage to get behind a wheel. I wonder if this Leavenworth operation is the only business of its kind in the Kansas City area.

Hi, my name's James Hart, and I write the Star's crime blog. Just wanted to let you know that I linked to your post, which was interesting -- I'm kind of stunned drive-through liquor stores exist, period.

no offense, but if you look around, you'd see alot of them. For an example, theres one in off of 12th street near James that opens up at 6 a.m. for the people getting off of third shifts. If you look in belton, there has been one on Ft. Scott for as long as I can remember and thats dating it back at least 30 years. (and theres is a second one to the North of that one too, but its newer) Several more around, but think the key to their existence is that they don't flaunt having the drive through feature, you pretty much just see a drive up window.

    Hi!
Being from Leavenworth I can tell you that it's a creepy liquor store but no it is NOT the only one in the KC area. I've seen a few in KCMO before.

I saw this link on the CrimeBlog, and thought I would chime in.
As well, I did not know these existed till moving up here to Hays, Ks. to finish my undergrad. There are quite a few of these. I have never done the drive thru, preferred method is browsing the aisles. But my understanding from talking to an employee is that is the driver seems impaired, not only are they not able to purchase, the local fuzz is notified as well...

I use to see drive through liquor stores all the time as a kid up in Ohio. Typically they were like big garages and you would actually drive into them--kind of like a car wash stacked high with cases of beer. A guy would come out to your car, you'd tell him what you wanted and he would grab the case of beer and put it in the trunk for you!

in florida these are quite common, in fact they look like a car wash, you drive through the middle of it. but then again, florida is a bit strange.

I live in LV county and just wanted to clarify that while the store has a drive-in, it's also a walk-in regular store. Looks like a former A&W restaurant so I'm not sure what the big deal is about using a fast-food restaurant's architectural advantages. Anyway, spouse and I occasionally get a bottle of dinner wine from Connie's (as in every third month or so...) by going in and the proprietor is quite knowledgeable about wines and is always helpful and friendly. Let's not make a drama mountain out a molehill here. For that matter, drive-through ATMs also have Braille keypads, so remove assumptions and insert common sense, folks.

In Texas, the drive thru liquor stores also sell radar detectors, ammo, lottery tickets and bait.

We had 'em where I grew up over in Illinois, too. The back door of the pizza joint we hung out at opened up right across the alley from their drive up window. Think barter system......

in new orleans, they have drive thru margarita shops. they put them in a styrofoam cup with a lid and a piece of tape where the straw goes. then they hand you the straw and thats considered a closed containter. its the most ridiculous crap ive ever heard

I live in Nashville right now, used to be in Leavenworth. Jordan's Liquor down the street from Doris Market in the same building as the pizza joint is also drive thru. Used to go there when I was underage.
