I like it. It's now easy to discern what the Sprint Center will look like upon completion later this year. What's most surprising is how small it seems. The arena's floor must be well below street level.
I like it better now than I did when they first unvieled the design and it was all chromey and mirrory.
But I still think it's a huge waste of money that will spend lots of time being empty between Billy Graham Crusades and swap meets.
Plus, does anybody else see a looming disaster with Missouri's new "concealed carry" law and all of these new mostly-glass (KC Star, H&R Block, Sprint Arena) buildings going up?
It doesn't take too much imagination to picture some chucklehead from Ray County having a night on the town "in The City" and finding all of that glass irresistible, going to his truck, and getting out his shootin' iron.
The Sprint Arena is going to be a tough sell to those outside our metro. As much as I enjoy seeing the progress on its construction each day I venture downtown to work at the Central Library, I wonder if it will play a vital role in the revitalization of downtown KC. Our events at the library are becoming quite successful, and the use of our meeting rooms and the Helzberg Auditorium are quite impressive. When our new screening room for movies opens in the Vault on May 23rd, people will be amazed at what they are going to find. For now I will just end these comments.
I agree, BGO, that the downtown library is gorgeous. I once saw a piano recital in the performance place upstairs near the outdoor patio (is that Helzberg Auditorium?) that still resonates with me.

Ha ha. I love the way the Star's new glass building seems to lean out over the highway.
